Anyone ever own the orginal AE86?

I had a 86 coupe, I loved that car. I bought it for $400, wrecked it a ton of times, but I learned a lot about driving from it.

This is how I bought it.

and how it looked when I sold it:

Nice, I cant say I have ever owned one. Although I have had many friends that owned them and religiously drifted them and was able to go out with them in my 240.

Was the 'coupe with a boot' version the AE-85, and not the AE-86 with the liftback? In Japan there is/was an insane AE-85 running a 2JZ-GTE with a monster single turbo running 11's of something similar. I have not owned an 86 but drove my ex-girlfriends one a few times many years ago. Nice enough car but the chassis was way better than the underpowered engine (4A-C) knew what to do with it.

Actually the coupe and hatch are both the AE86. There are a lot of AE86s out there with crazy swaps, your buddies must have been quick!

The 4AC was sooo sloooww!! I had a corolla with a 4AC for a little amount of time, and it could barley go up hills.

I definitely wouldn't daily drive one, but it would be neat to strip it down and beef it up for the track.

Had a 86 hatch. Flew all the way to Colorado and drove it back to the Bay Area. Also had a 74 Celica gt w/ 18rg. Pre-cursor to the ae-86
