I'm just curious as to the ACTUAL age group considering buying the FT-86.
I know Toyota thinks the Targeted audience is 40+ but I find that hard to believe.

40+!! Really?! So, basically the guys that drove the AE86 as a teenager... I suppose they are more likely to have money, but figure they're less likely to be interested in this car and more into a G37 or Cayman or 1 and 3 series Bimmers. Hmmm, maybe men aren't the market. I can see cool 40+ moms driving red Scions I guess. I want one, but I'm very immature for my age and at peace with my femanine side, Haha! I predict people in their twenties really want this car, but can't afford it if it's just under $30k and will have to wait half a decade for used ones. This could be a sad replication of the 240SX which was overpriced for it's time and place in the market.

True! Based on the prelim specs we're seeing with the powerplant, I'm not too worried though.
If we got some sort of NA, slant mount, inline 4, 1.6 liter @ 130WHP in North America I'd have to conclude that Japan never forgave our parents.
Yeah, Nissan's assumption that Americans wanted torque and low emissions at the cost of power and RPMs was rather foolish. I think KA stands for Kook Americans.
Backroads... Nature's Race Track
It depends on the market - all of us senior citizens who grew up with hot hatches and FWD are now looking hard at RWD for our performance and handling needs; in a country with income-based speeding fines, high car taxes (we need a lot less than 200g/CO2 per km), and really expensive fuel (EUR1.65/litre), I need to prioritise handling over power... not that I'd be happy with less than 200bhp, but it'll have to be a properly sorted and integrated package to be competitive.
the people from the U.S. (me, too) are spoiled with cheaper gas and easier emission standards. Our time is coming as our gov't is spending lots of $ and borrowing to do it. We'll be paying out the nose for all sorts of stuff like Europe (not to be hateful, but the gov'ts there spend and regulate more). I mean gas here in MO is $3.89 gallon. I checked gas in London today and it was 137.06p (never heard of pences, but i guess they are like our pennies?). Found exchange rates and it compared to $8.12 a gallon!!! People here would riot on that kind of price. Hell, people are pissed about $4/gallon gas!
I worked with a guy from Denmark and he couldn't believe how much cheaper cars are in general here. He had to pay $1000/yr just to get plates for one car! I have 2 and paid less than $100, which would have been $2000 there. My corolla isn't even worth that much. lol.
I'm glad I live here and hope we "change" our gov't now. lol.
TOPCAT> what is the lowest wages paid in your country in US dollars? (or whatever cash you use and I'll find the exchange rate).
Shocking Gas Prices Around the Globe - ABC News

The average monthly income Finland is €2600 with an effective tax rate 33.5%. There is no “minimum wage” but the union-target is €1800. Finnish workers are also entitled to unemployment benefit – some 65% of previous average salary - pension entitlement, and there is a national free healthcare and low cost education system.
From another source, it seems that the average is €410; which compares to an average for say the UK of €278, the US €220, Sweden €390 and Denmark €540 (at least, according to the source I found).
In Finland, there is a tax on new cars, which is based on the underlying cost of the car, the cost of the options, the CO2 emissions, and value added tax on the while lot at 22%.
Then there is fuel tax – roughly 2.5 times US levels for gasoline (current cost is €1.65/litre for 95 octane), plus registration of around €100/year and for diesel fuelled cars, there is a fuel cost of €1.15/litre, plus a flat rate for registration of €600/year.
You should also look at other metrics such as national GDP/head, and national poverty levels – Finland is between “not measurable” and 4% (depending on whose statistics you believe), compared to the US which is around 12%, even though we have roughly equal GDP/head.
In other words, it’s extremely hard to compare, but as a baseline, our cars and fuel are about 2½ times more 'expensive' than yours in real terms. Wages, income and the cost of accomodation, cost of living are completely different. But as a proprtion of earned and taxed income, cars are a hell of a lot more expensive to own and run in Finland than the US.
in England, they have pounds and pence (one penny, two pence)
since the US is so big, cost of living is hard to measure. If you live in the midwest, it is about 2/3 or 3/4 the cost it is to live near the East or West coasts. Taxes vary too. Not a whole lot, but here in the midwest (i live in Missouri), gas is anywhere from 10-50 cents cheaper per gallon here than most places. In Hawaii, my sister says (and i've been there), it's almost a dollar more per gallon. I think the coasts pay about 20-30 cents more or so.
IMO, the European countries are somewhat like our states, but slightly more varied in gov't laws.
The average American income is something like $45000-50000/ year. I think most "blue collar" or the working class, make more like $25000-35000/ year (atleast from my experience here in the midwest, which is probably less than near the coasts). In a month that's about the same as what you are describing in equal amounts. Yet, Euro's are worth 1.4 times that, which comes in right about the same as our average pay here. 1.4 (Euro to dollar conversion) x 31200 (E 2600 x 12 months) = $43,680 US per year.

looking that this site, Switzerland has the most "purchasing power" by far. The US is next, but is closely followed by many nations.

hahahaah just read this whole thread.....and i have that Cost of Living Index By Country page opening as i type this....lmao....HURRY UP TOYOBARU~!!!!!
Yes, but it makes sense. Demographics for their cars will vary by country. This is why so many cars get make or exported to certain countries and not others. North America seems to get the watered down imports, big lux cars and full sized trucks, while the rest of the world is getting more performance and/or smaller cars. That's why this car is so economy based because gas is so f'n high in Europe!
It seems though, this car is hitting the 22-35 age range big time.
