i say semi-auto is perfect because for a lot of people this is probably going to be a dailey driver i know it is going to be for me and living in LA traffic sucks and shifting can get reall annoying sometimes

I saw a few folks want a 5 speed but wonder if those who voted for this option understand the number of problems that Suby folks have had with that gearbox? It breaks more often than a cheap lawn chair under a fat mans arse and will simply not stand up to the abuse of performance driving or modification.

The manumatics are nice ideas but I see this car as the entry level sport fighter. Complex transmissions are nice and all but the 6 speed manual box is near indestructible and in my mind real men still row their own gears.

Gimme the 6 speed!

So Subie gear heads. Is there a 6Spd trans made by Subie that has Reverse in the left position (beyond 1st gear). Sorry Ive never looked at a 6Spd subie...

I had my years of driving manuals but never put anyone down for driving an automatic. When I read posts about how automatics "suck" (and other comments) it reminds me a lot how immature and stupid some people can be.

Please do not try to bring this back up. People are entitled to their opinion. The only immature people are the one's who don't realize that. No one put down the people who drive an automatic car, just the automatic itself as that is not their preference. There is a difference.

That debate took place back in October and had been put to rest. Opening the debate back up would have been fine, minus calling out people's maturity level's based off the fact that you don't agree with them.

There are benefits/drawbacks to both auto and manual transmissions. Being that the FT-86 is performance oriented and this is a performance oriented site, it is normal for one to encounter more individuals that like manual transmissions on this site. If we were talking about a cadilac cts sedan, this would be just the opposite.
I am sure we all understand that there has always been a healthy debate on wether an auto is better then a manual transmission. This thread was set up to ask us which we prefer not which was better.

Understand that drag car drivers use manual because there would be very little driver skill involved otherwise. F1 drivers use push button autos because they don't have time to take their eyes off the rdwy.

I prefer manual because I am a control freak and a manual has better control of the car by the driver. The auto may be able to shift better in a straight line, but I still prefer shifting (while I still can) to pushing buttons. However, there will always be "that time" when I am holding a coke, trying to eat a hamburger and can't shift. Then.....I will wish I had the auto.

Haha i've done that before, That's when you be in 3rd gear for a while at like 4K rpm then shift with your left hand.

Ha-ha, I don't make a habit of it, but when the car is 5-6 years old, your an hour from home, and it's already 8pm....I think I've eaten in my 2007 Sky a total of 4 times, never dropped a crumb!

Yes, that's what happens when USDM car have gone from two holders to many cup holders ....basically suggesting (over time) that you "can" to you "should" drink in the car. My 2008 STI, has 8 designed locations for drink containers - ridiculous.


- I rarely drink in the car...(never goes 'slow')...so liquid would fly everywhere, if I did.
- I eat in the car (but rarely) and NEVER when it's moving. again...food would likely be sticking to the windows and end up balling up on the floormat, if I did.

Actually there kind of is. Not sure about the S13's but in the S14's the middle console there is a small piece of plastic that you can buy from the stealership to section the console off, effectively making a cupholder.

Not in the USDM S13's. Only "Cup holder" is when you remove the ash tray. Square cupholders don't work all that well with round beverages though.

There are some aftermarket cupholders that people use. And IIRC there is a JDM OEM cupholder but they are super rare. Like 2 people on Zilvia have'em. Ok probably more then 2, but you get the idea.

They don't at all, but better than nothing. I think another sports car thing is not having the "oh crap" handle buy the window.
