What Engine Specs would you like to see?

What kind of engine specs would you like to see in this car? Remember that with performance, comes higher prices, lower mpg and higher insurance premiums. Also, the turbo's options would likely see 40-100 lbs more weight because of the turbo parts and would be slightly more nose heavy.

Say the prices for cheapest version would start at 23k and for the highest end 2.5L turbo being around 32k. The 2.5 na would be slightly cheaper than a 2.0 turbo.

2.5 turbo 220 HP sounds like a dream come true. Fuck gas mileage.

all the votes for a turbo engine is crazy to me- the extra cost would put this car out of touch for most of your wallets, then you will be just admiring someone eles car... be smart when thinking about what engine you think should be in the car, you never know if scion/toyota might just happen to come on here and take your advise , and the next thing you know that $20k dream turns into a $30K situation.

2.5L with 220HP would be nice, plenty of room for mods.

I Know I 100% agree with you, scion/toyota would charge way to much for a turbo setup- upper range of 6-9 grand, N/A is the way to go, save that money for a bigger A/M Turbo package!

true, they would charge more if it had a turbo but to add a turbo to an N/A engine would be costly too, at least to have it still be reliable. you would have to lower the CR, possibly sleeve the block, heck you might even have to get a stronger tranny. again you wouldn't absolutely have to do all those things, you could just slap a turbo on there and be done with it but it wouldn't be as reliable as a stock turbo system.

agreed. i was thinking more for saving my warranty aspect though. and im prob going to be financing the car which means ill have a gap of time before i have enough for a turbo... i dont know if i can go back to life with no boost haha

then again, if it only comes n/a, then when i finally do boost it, it'll certainly be one of the more faster ones

If Hyundai can manage 205 out of a 2.0L and price it at 25,250, I'm sure Toyota can manage to keep the price 24-26K.

It wil come with a Boxter engine so im sure it will be built to handle higher than normal pressures..

WOW! It seems that nobody wants anything less than 200 hp and 180 tq? What does that mean to the figures that some have posted of 200 hp and 150 tq? It seems to me that Toyota needs to make this a multi-model car. I'd bet the Z, Camero and Mustang would have a car stealing away sales at even 250 hp/ 230 tq and a $29k price tag. Even better at $27K or less? It's all about price vs power really. I don't know if the car will sell for $25k and 200hp /150 tq. Like the rx-8, but more efficient. Still, who wants to just beat one of the worst bang for the buck cars? That's like saying, "I just beat a girl in a fight!"

Actually it will come with a "Boxer" engine, a boxter is a car made by porsche. Also while subaru engines are well built it doesnt mean its is built to handle the pressure/heat from a turbo. look at the differences between the EJ257 and whatever N/A engine comes in the regular impreza, open deck instead of semi closed, weaker crank/connecting rods/pistons compared to the STi engine. not to mention the regular impreza tranny would never hold up to any real amount of power.

    Me too.

    LOL at last post!

The subie engines are fine, IMO. Just gimme the stronger version and I'll be happy. Leave the less powerful version for the commuters and give the enthusiasts something to be excited about. 200 hp and 150 tq was cool back in the 80's. The E90 corolla's could get 4wd, ITB's, 5 valve/cylinder and 160 hp out of a 1.6L. Now over 20 years later, we get a 2.0 with 200 hp? That's about the same as before with 20 year newer tech. They seemed to go more mpg's outta this car than performance, because it could easily have had more power in many forms. Whether it be a turbo, larger 2.5L engine or both. Subaru/Toyota can make or break this car with the engine and tranny setups. If they go for all out efficient NA, the car will be hard to modify for more power. Could go more of strength and efficiency with a block design and pistions (descent 10.x:1 compression) and utilize the STI tranny type. IIRC, the tranny was a modified STI version, so it should be good to go. The rear diff can be swapped, worst case scenario, better that than engines as wiring can be a mess along with tossing any warrantee.

The gen 4 would be sweet, but engineering wise, the shorter boxer has an advantage in handling. The EJ's are about as potent as the 3s's, but the verdict is out on the FB series. I hope with Toyota AND Yamaha involved, it means hardcore strength WITH effiency. I will not buy this car if it feels soft like the zz series engines and trannies did, while my 3s will take about anything I "short" throw at it. LOL. It would be nice to have the cobb accessport available.

I'm starting to think though, that either Akio Toyoda will pull this out and build it right or Subaru will. Piston/CR is my main concern, but if turbo is even on table, it'll be fine. I'm waiting for this info.

^I concur. Subaru has had no issue building powerful turbo cars for the last 10 years so I don't see them stopping now. Toyota has more than enough commuters so making this one a commuter as well doesn't seem feasible.

I hope that Toyota will keep in mind Nissan's mistake with the S-chassis.

I chose 2.0 L, 200 hp, 180 tq, 28 mpg average(premium) because thats what i want minimun!! but ideally i really want a 2.0 or 2.5L 220-250hp, 200-230 tq. doesnt matter NA or turbo and price topping out at max 28K.

If Ford can do 412HP and get 26 MPG with a 5.0L V8 on a car that weighs almost 3800lbs without direct injection, subaru should be able to do atleast 30 MPG on a RWD car with 250HP.

    NA from a turbo guy

I have owned many great turbo engines: 2.0 turbo 91 Mr2, 2.0 direct injection turbo 07 Saturn sky(wow), and now a 3.0 direct injection twin turbo 07 335i. I would rather have a very torquey NA engine for reliability reasons. If they make the turbo I'll have to get it because I'm a power junkie, but if the most power I can get is NA I would prefer this so I can keep it for years as Toyotas are meant to be kept. Don't get me wrong I love my turbos and they have gotten so transparent these days you hardly notice there's a turbo at all. I just have been-there-done-that-itis and would rather have something NA. Because Toyota is trying to make this to be a modder's car, probably means no turbo from the factory. Either way I'm ok, just would rather have the larger engine, sans turbo.

    Example...

My 07 Saturn sky turbo was 2.0 direct injection turbo with 260hp and 260lbft of torque, torque available at a very low rpm. I got no worse then 27mpg, best was 36mpg, reg was 32-34. Parts were cheapish and reliability was incredible for GM standards, better then my mr2. Saturn offered a dealer installed reprogramming plus injector mod that boosted power to over 300 hp and 300 lbft. The upgrade didn't void the factory warranty either. Price? With Saturns no haggle pricing in 2007, right at 31k out the door. if I didn't need room for a baby seat, I would still have the Sky redline, but replaced the seats. The only issue I ever had was that they apparently tried to cut corners with the type of foam they used and many owners had the foam loosing shape. Most just removed the old padding and replaced it with a higher grade. If GM can do this, I'm sure Toyota can match or do better if they decide to make a DI turbo 2.0.

2.0 NA 200HP for me is enough but 2.5 NA 220HP is good too.
Turbo version is too much for me for a daily (insurance and fuel consumption)
I would like performances closed to my ex Integra DC2 type R

Agreed, i voted for the 2.5 NA . . . But a 2.0 NA with 200 should be plenty, especially with the flurry of aftermarket parts that are sure to flood the market once it's released.

2.0 with 200 horses, 6-speed standard stick and a maximum out-the-door price of $22,995 fits me like a fiddle with a flickerswitch, guys. Make sure it's in the shade of monkey-butt red, of course. Turbo not required and won't be required for this NID padre.

The price combined with what powertrain seems to be on everyone's mind, although most are wanting more. If it's cheap enough, like 23k, then you can add a turbo kit later if you'd like, as I know there will be forced induction setups for this car.

I'm kind of thinking odder than most with the Scion FR-S as I want a 4-dr. model FR-S. I still think Toyota/Scion is mulling this one over because sales will drive the possibility of a sedan, they will build it if sales of the FR-S/Subie Coupe don't take off into the stratosphere to their liking. I'd put it on my short list if they built this pup as a 4-dr., oh you know that I would. It would catapult to the top, though our '08 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS has just barely passed the 75,000 mile mark. It's running like a champ and we're never a two-rig couple. Fun to plan ahead 5 years and dream-weave, though, eh?

before I would say no, toyota will not build a rwd economy sport sedan, especially with factors like the Corolla, but now that this is most likely a Scion... it kinda changes a lil? idk
