Lightbulb Whats your limit? 20k or 30k?

Say you are walking into a dealership to buy a spanking new Toyota FT-86 or Subaru 216a.

Imagine for a min the price and model differences. Which would you choose?

    1. Toyota FT-86 2.0 NA 200whp (2012 Release) @ 20k base.

    2. Subaru 216a 2.0 Turbo 275whp (2013 Release) @ 30k base.

I really like the FT86, but for an extra 10k, I'd like to have a turbo - stock from the factory, without getting a custom turbo install for about 6k, and possibly voiding the warranty.

I would want the Suby but my paycheck would limit me to an NA Ft-86.

I am expecting to pay $30 - $35k for the Subaru version, but only if it is AWD and turbo. Otherwise I will keep my '08 and buy a Fiat 500C Abarth .

I don't know what the hell id get at this point, I still favor the Toyota as I like the basic fundamentals of a car to be sound, and CHEAP. I can make it go fast as I so desire.

But then, factory turbo solves about 10k$ worth of problems, haha.

Ill just win lotto and buy both!

I'd save up for the turbo, even if it meant delaying the purchase for a year. After driving my NA nearly stock 09 Civic Si for the last two years, I need some power to satisfy me. I'd have to spring for the turbo. I just really hope that toyota offers a turbo for a few k more. Ideally for me, toyota will release a 24-25kish turbo charged toyota version of this car.

That sounds like the ideal decision. I think I'll do that too. Nice thinking West!

I would get the Toyota, it's a new concept. I already have a fast Subie. I'd surely put coilovers on the 86 and improve it's intake/exhaust, if needed.

That's my baby, for sure for sure!

And I want the 6-speed manual tranny, too. Red for the color of the car, monkey-back Japanese red!

The Toyota. All I want is a lightweight, modest hp, rwd coupe, for a decent price...nothing more.

The latest news outta the Lost Wages dealer meetings is that the Toyota FT-86 will indeed be a Scion, be called the FR-S, and be priced at $25,000. To that I say bring it on and let's have a good look and test drive of the production model. In the Japanese "monkeyback red" color, please, bare bones model and in 6-speed manual transmission form.

I would like to see a bare-bones club racer model for under $25k. Slim chance if its a Scion because they all gotta have power windows/mirrors/locks and all that dumb crap...

Damn right I do. Power everything except seats, sunroof and A/C is a must for me.

Uh... Didn't the Honda S2000 CR's come with all the "dumb crap" you mentioned? Even if they did have a few AC/Radio delete models, the majority came with both, IIRC.

My point is that it being a Scion will have no effect on whether said hypothetical FT-86 "Club Racer" spec comes with "dumb crap".
