Not a fan of hybrid. Especially since Honda made a non hybrid civic that got 53 mpg.

Not really. But it all depends on the specs and pricing. However I really doubt it that a hybrid FT-86 would come with a 20k pricetag.
... and of course all the extra parts of the hybrid engine would make up a lot heavier car, thus the FT would loose its dynamics

Stick to the original design concept of the ft-86. If I wanted a hybrid I would buy the powerful ft-hs. So no hybrid ft86 for me.

im pissed at mitsu for turning the evo into a hybrid.
NO hybrid could ever feel like a real car.

I don't have a problem with hybrids. But in this case I'd pass if there was an option.

    hybrids are a waste.
you can get almost as much mpg out of a normal engine.
the batterys need in hybrids are gona be super expensive to replace. And the ways they are made cant be doing anything good for the enviroment. It just wasted technology. It will work well for awhile. but there isnt much servicing you can do to them.
AND imo adding a small turbo is the way to go for EVERY gasoline/diesel engine.
Adds power and boosts gas milage, gm had it going, so does ford.
The real power source of the future is hydrogen. Theres lots of it. It doesnt polute like petrol does. And it can basically be used the same as petrol always has been.
Jay Leno said smthin like "its the car of tomorrow because its just like the car of today" when talking about the new honda fcx clarity that runs on hygrogen.
Also mazda has somthing going for them with the rx8. rotary engines have the flexibily needed to do crazy stuff like this. a version that can run on both hydrogen and gasoline.

Hybrid sports cars can be done well, however being in the generation where I see combustion dying, I have a unwillingness to let go and embrace hybrids. Give me gasoline, oil, and combustion forever!

No, no, no, no, no. If i want a hybrid I will go and buy a hybrid. I want an FT-86. Except no substitutes. Excelsior! (Apologies to Stan Lee). If the FT-86 becomes a hybrid, I will buy a small RWD petrol powered car from someone else.

I don't think it will be fully hybrid, just have a hybrid model at 5-10K more than the base costs.

I know of many awesome Hybrid cars that I would buy, if I were filthy rich with 100k+ to burn in my pocket. However I wouldn't touch an FT-86 Hybrid with a 10 ft stick.

Watch Toyota make the "Baby FT86" an hybrid with 1.6l and gobs of unwanted weight. At that point, the FT86 car as it original came into the world would be dead on arrival. Well, the Baby would.

What price an electric FT-86 with a cut-down Tesla roadster powertrain? Toyota have just bought all that technology. Imagine some Japanese attention to detail in the way the Tesla electric motors are wound now in order to extract more power...!

I would have to drive those filthy rich people hybrids before I could make a sound decision. If it looked good, was fast, sounded good, why not. I just don't want a car missing it's balls.

Agreed. And you have no modification path with a hybrid, no easy-ish way to get more power - so it must be quick out of the box.

If they can get it to make 40mpg, weigh under 2800lbs, and cost under $25k, sure. Probably not gonna happen, though...

40 mpg with a boxer is unlikely, IMO

has no one heard of - for example - the latest Audi Q5 petrol/electric hybrid with 2.0T and a smallish electric engine in place of the automatic, for 250bhp+? Hardly any weight gain at all, but massively reduced fuel consumption and CO2. I'd take one, if I could afford it, as a family car.

Don't know about a sports car, though. I'm still with Colin Chapman - just add lightness.

Screw batteries. Gimme a hydrogen fuel cell. Virtually no pollution, cheap and still tuneable

Problem with the Tesla is there are no gears. Cant drop the clutch. I want to be able burn dinosaurs (except for fuel) and get it sideways.
