More April Fools Goodness, dont worry I verified it

Just announced by Toyota Motor Corporation in NY press release!
    ----

March 31, 2010 Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC)

Toyota Press Conference speech - New York Auto Show 2010
James Lentz, chief operating officer of Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen - and welcome. I would like to open our press conference today by referring to a statement made by our founder more than 70 years ago, which we display in our dealerships across Europe.

“I want everybody to put their efforts together and unite in finding a way to make superior quality vehicles.” Kiichiro Toyoda, May 1939 - Founder, Toyota Motor Corporation.

As you know, over the last few weeks, we have been going through the most extensive recall campaign in our history. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our dealers as well as their technicians and salesmen who have been handling customers' enquiries and repairs with efficiency and dedication; and of course all my colleagues for their efforts, and those institutions and authorities who have been cooperating with us.

As you know Toyota has created a heritage of exciting sports models. From the Celica to the MR2, and the Supra we look forward to the new FT-86 Concept. Now, with its distinctive front engine and real-wheel drive configuration, the FT-86 Concept is ready to introduce the next generation of Toyota sports cars. It is extremely light, with a low centre of gravity. This delivers an instant, precise response to even the slightest throttle and steering input.
Considering the demand from spiritual drivers and to satisfy our loyal customers even more we are working on a four wheel drive option for the FT-86 as it was for the Celica from 1986 to 1998. While the production name is still being reconsidered, the car will wear GT-Four badge in Europe and Japan, as well as All-Trac badge in the USA. The AWD model will be slightly longer with shorter wheelbase and will deliver superior performance and extremely balanced and driver oriented handling. When we introduce the FT-86 Concept models in early 2012, it will bring real joy in the Toyota showroom.

I thank you very much for your attention - and please join me at the Scion press conference, which begins in a few minutes, for another two sensational vehicles.

^ I'm still hoping for a turbo charged RWD version. They can keep their AWD version.

Don't worry that's all BS, Toyota isn't making AWD. Guess it COULD happen.

I pray before I compete, that I won't finish last, that all Honda's shall finish behind me ( ! :-) ), and that someone else will toast their car going for the bonsai killer time and give us all a good laugh...!!!!!

Damn man, I want a turbo one......

In saying that, I've read a bit of stuff on FT's of late and it would seem they are going to be building special version e.i. STI etc... So I would think that a turbocharged variant would be quiet possible......Maybe even AWD??

Why are people still thinking AWD????? The engine is pushed back and lowered for BETTER weight distribution and WILL NOT allow for the traditional Subaru transmission. It would have to be an entire new transmission setup to make it awd and wouldn't be symmetrical like the rest of Subaru because of the engine layout. They could do it like they do trucks and other vehicles by putting in a center differential.

    ^This.

Even SOAblog on NASIOC confirmed that Subaru would not offer AWD with their version of the car.

I know there's RR and FF models in the line up and past models.......I'm just wondering if there was ever a dedicated RWD model ever produced? I don't think there was?

Too bad, the real numbers are 200 bhp and 150 torque at 4800.
    I'm disappointed.

Thanks a lot. Things have been quiet for to long. When I read the article in Road & Track, I freaked. I have been holding off buying a new car for this Scion, now I see it has no horsepower and little torque. I am hoping they change their mind or that the $5000.00 more price on the Subaru is for some power and not gingerbread.

Why is everyone so caught up with hp/tq numbers? All those are good for are bragging rights anyways. What the focus should be on is the weight. Yes, ~200hp and ~150tq is a bit on the low end, but if the car comes in at ~2500 lbs., it wouldn't be bad at all. And who knows? Maybe minimal modification/tuning would make those numbers jump. Also, note the "~" I used, because that's exactly what they are: approximations. Last time I checked, we didn't have any official specs/numbers from either camp.

While the horsepower and torque numbers bother Me, the same article says it will beat the hundai genisis coupe, at o-60 7.5, this is not fast. It will require major work to get the car to an acceptanle 5.5 - 0-60.

I was hoping for over 160 tq. 150? Where did that come from?

If it had 200 bhp and 180 tq, that would be ok. With only 200 bhp, there needs to be more tq. I figured if it go over 210 hp, then the tq would suffer similar to s2000's related to civic Si's (more hp means loss in lowend), but not at 200 hp. WTF? Need turbo option badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would really like a 205-220 bhp car with turbo that allows me to tune the car to a nice conservative 350whp.

350whp for a ~2700lbs car is conservative? Then I want to ride in a car you would label as an aggressive tune. I have no doubts that I would soil myself.

That's what I was going to run in my ~2600 lb (weight reduction ftw!) mr2 turbo on pump gas. Gonna shoot for 430 on e85. Although, I'm ditching the AC, poly mounts, stock radio and no power steering. Meaning, I'm kind of crazy.
