This one is pretty interesting. That they are proclaiming it the Celica.

^^ I have nothing against the celica, but I really hope this isn't true. This car needs to be something of its own.

The 086a pictures there is just a Photoshop overlaid onto those initial FT-86 ages from Toyota. Subaru fans still have hope.

I figured with all these people making concepts of concepts, it would be hard for Subaru to screw this up and make it ugly.

hopefully they'll have people scan the internet for feedback on the concept before they finalize one! least i would think it'd be a good idea lol
i know they had people from lexus scanning the IS forums for ideas for IS-F
and minus the 8speed auto, im satisfied w/ how it turned out for the most part

8 Speed auto? Seems a bit much. Suppose it will get fairly decent mpg though.

Where did you find this out? I know what I read about the IS-F but just curious on this.

btw - Subaru can make quite a bit ugly it's in their auto 'dna' but they're learning, shall see how this toy-baru project influences them. Likely toyota will (minimally) assist in the design for it to look european/american.

Wow all these magazine articles are overwhelming. I feel like a child in a candy store. The AE86 reminds me of Initial D.

I just noticed the critics in the columnist's words in the Auto Week magazine. Like FT-86 being a Porsche??? Well forgive me, but I couldn't help to dig up some numbers related to the 996 and compare them with the FT-86. See below:

    Porsche 996 - FT-86 dimensions

    Wheelbase
    92.6 in (2352 mm) - 101.2 in / 2570 mm

    Length
    174.5 in (4432 mm) - 163.8 in / 4160 mm
    4S & Turbo: 174.6 in (4435 mm)

    Width
    1999-2001: 69.5 in (1765 mm)
    2002-04: 69.7 in (1770 mm) - 69.3 in / 1760 mm
    4S & Turbo: 72.0 in (1829 mm)

    Height
    51.4 in (1306 mm)
    4S & Turbo: 51.0 in (1295 mm)
    40th Anniv. Coupe: 50.2 in (1275 mm) - 49.6 in / 1260 mm
    GT2: 50.2 in (1275 mm)

In my eyes there are some "slight" differences in sizes, but what the hell.

Oh and I was tooooo lazy to search for numbers about the 911 Carrera. But the lines of this car are far off from the modern Hachiroku's lines. I will be coming back with some pics.
I don't say that the Porsches are not beautiful cars, I just say they don't have the same design. At least in my eyes, not.
Anyway if I'm wrong I take the blame for my words, and the worst possible criticism from the experts .

    P.S.
If you will allow just a small metaphore
    Vulture & Eagle
both are raptors; both have 2 wings; 2 feet; curved, pointed, meet slashing claws; feathers; tails; aerodynamic bodies and both can fly (fairly high and fast), however they are not the same species (not even the same genus).
The same stands for these cars: they are supposed to be sport cars so they must show some "similarities" in shapes .
If I was too cinical, please excuse me .

^I don't think you are being to cynical at all. Porches are nice cars, but even if someone handed me 11 million dollars I would not buy one. I would hope that the porchse would be the vulture and the Ft the eagle.

    Hi

so I’m back with the pics. I hope you will be able to see them in the attachments.

Probably the cars are not on the same scale (regarding size). However anyone can see the "resemblence" in the lines of the 3 cars. It's a pity that the FT's background is also white, but we saw many pictures with it to know that the contour is diffrent from that of the Porsche's (just as the nose length and tail length and nose shape....).

P.S. Cwright25 thanks for the backup.

I dont think the cars share any similarities besides the boxer motors, which might of been the inspiration for the magazine editor.

I like the analogy, but it would be hard to say either car is the vulture. They are different class of cars not doubt, but I cannot classify a Porsche as an vulture, nor could I the FT-86

If I had 11 million, I might get a Porsche, although if I had 5 million I certainly would not.

What I find most interesting, is this cars ability to draw in a mass diverse fans. We have the RWD fans, the Subaru and Porsche boxer fans, and hopefully AWD if we end up with a AWD Subaru form.

I agree. Regarding the metaphore, my goal was not to classify any of the cars as a vulture or eagle, just to point out that both cars are designed as sports cars, so they have to "obey" to certain rules (physics / aerodynamics), for which reason the main shape might be similar.
Same with the 2 birds, living a similar lifestyle and evolving in the same environment the main shape of their bodies resemble a lot (especially when you see them high up in the sky). But from a closer inspection the differences are obvious.

Once again I guess im the weird one, but my eyes see the Ft has body lines from both of the porches
