Talking Why it might be better as a Scion...

While overall, I'd prefer it to be a Toyota, bringing it in as a Scion might have some pluses (for those not hung up on badge issues ):

    - it would tend to keep the price down as Toyota could not venture too far from Scion's target-market demographic - the budget-conscious youth(ful) shopper.

    - for the same reason, it would likely be quite a "stripper" model in its base configuration, which would be great for those wanting to do custom modifications

    - option choices may be more customizable (a la tC) than is typical for a Toyota where you tend to get locked into choosing between a few option packages/trim levels (at least here in Canada).

I'm a believer, bro. I have been fully in love with two Scion models already. Those being the Scion xA and the Scion tC. I am fully down with this car coming here as a Scion FR-S. I would have no qualms at purchasing a Scion, and the one I would want would be the stripped-down version, 6-speed, 500-watt competent stereo with a 10" subwoofer in the trunk, power w's, l's, and m's and A/C. It is coming to me in the airwaves of the automotive world that the car will price out at about $20,995 max just the way I've listed it. If any more I'm not playing.

I'm sorry but one only has to look at "aftermarket" options from scion to see they badly need to shift the brand to what true enthusiasts care about, leave the neons at home. If they rentals themselves then they might get my second look. Until then, If that continues in the Scion FT-86 then I'll continue to bash Scion. Luckly I have some inside info from Scion and believe they intend to reshuft their image to something reputable.

Pfft good luck with the image shift. It will take years for scion to be taken seriously. Look at the genesis and Hyundai. Awesome car but people often say "it's still a Hyundai".

Yea, completely agreed. All in all I guess there still really are some people into that ricey neon look so... lol

    wouldn't a 10" subwoofer make it like a non-stripped down version?

No offense intended, but I would agree with ej25ti that a "stripped-down" version is generally termed for cars without excess options/packages and/or are mainly performance-focused models. So having a nice factory sound system with a 10" sub would probably not be called a "stripped-down" version. Also, adding sound systems to performance cars (especially heavy subs) have generally been looked down upon by enthusiasts because of the fact that it adds so much weight (and we all know weight is one of the performance car's worst enemies). Sound systems are also linked to the show car crowd which doesn't usually see eye-to-eye with the performance-oriented crowd. Not saying that all show cars are all show and no go. Some are amazing at both, but the enthusiast would argue that the same show car would perform better without the heavy sound system. It all depends on what your priorities are for a specific car. I'm an audiophile, myself, so I understand the love/need for music in the car, but for the FR-S I would prefer to keep it light and just listen to the engine music. That's me. For your car, do what you want. You bought it and if it makes you happy, who cares what others think? Just as long as your bass doesn't mesmerize people and cause them to crash. LOL!

The fact is is Mr.Toyoda will be deciding what models will be built and how they'll be sold. This is a fun pursuit for me and pissing matches...i.e. the Ford vs. Chevy type thing means nothing to me. Buy what you want. Piss when you want. This pursuit is mine. If I want to rock to some Tragically Hip on my 2012 Scion FR-S' 500 watt stereo well then I will. Can we please extract the sticks from our asses and get on with sharing information about this beautiful new car from Toyota and Subaru?

I am an enthusiast but I am not so hardcore that I want a stripped down version with no creature comforts. Give me artic A/C, a sub anyday.

I wouldn't go as far as saying we have sticks in our asses, I was just suggesting that when models come stripped down they usually don't have things like 10" subs. I want a 10" sub too, unfortunately it'll prob come with other extras, possibly some which we see in the STi now like heated seats and what not.

EDIT: After getting into my car this morning I have come to the conclusion that I actually WOULD like heated seats... that is all.

Whoever says "its still a Hyundai" clearly has a stick up their ass.
If youre that ignorant about a brand name and arent capable of seeing the true potential of the car then you dont deserve to drive anything at all.

I completely agree! The Genesis and the rest of Hyundai's current lineup is well above par, especially for their prices!

I agree about Hyundai and Kia completely. They are both building great cars. I have owned a Sephia and a Sportage and they were both good rigs.

...and don't forget Scions are actually 1OO% made in Japan as well as engine and transmission. Next time go to your Toyota Dealership and look at some of their other vehicle models, you'll be surprised where they are manufactured and % of Japanese engine parts.. I personally want Japanese quality if I'm looking at a Japanese car. I own a 05 tC and beat the sh*t out of it at 116,000 miles with no hitches. *crosses fingers. Aftermarket support is well documented.. I think Scion is the only Manufacturer to offer a supercharger as an option at the dealership and TRD backing them up for parts. Greddy, Dezod, Turbonetics, Descendant, Tanabe, Injen...and more offer any parts you want for reasonable prices.

I look at hyudai for what they are. They've been building blah cars for years the decided to become relevant. The genesis is an awesome example of what we all want, however it is a new car. It's true potenial as well as potential downfalls are unknown. Time will tell.

I think Scion doesn't allow for haggling on price, right? That's good for me...

Excellent, excellent points about this car coming over from Japan and being sold as a straight-up Scion. Again, I don't look at Scion as a Dodge Neon. I have a lot more respect for them then that. 100% Japanese part content and assembly in Japan rocks my world like a Drive-By Trucker show deep in the woods of Alabama. Bring us more news, Toyota. Come on dudes, we're bickering about nothing over here. Give us something we can bite down on and munch on over here, please!

    accent-show_181.jpg

Found me a picture of the new 2012 Hyundai Accent over at LeftLaneNews.com. It is kinda small but, pardon the pun, you get the picture! It is a vast improvement IMO over the last Accent design. But still an Accent, eh?

All cars are pretty decent looking now adays. Even the new Ford Taurus and that new Buick supercharged nonsense are looking pretty snazzy. They're all pretty powerful too.

When these car companies were all in trouble I think they all realized that the best thing they could do was to make attractive cars

I just don't want a car that looks like a rocket and feels like a marshmallow.

The new 2011 elantras are also VERY sharp.

Photo Gallery: 2011 Hyundai Elantra U.S. arrival in Q4 2010

My gf is going to get one of these or a ford fiesta. For some reason Hyundai is taking FOREVER to release their 2011 elantras, so we have to play the waiting game. It sucks, because she's ready to buy now. I drove a 2010 elantra when I went on vacation to Arizona for a week and the car was actually more fun than I expected. The newer one gets better MPG and more pep.

Hyundai is completely legit. My gf's parents have a santa fe that's a year old and it's very well put together. IMO the 2 most improved car companies at the moment are Hyundai and Ford.
