Thumbs up 2013 Subaru BRZ to Make U.S. Debut in Detroit Jan 9th, Scion FR-S too!

The 2013 Subaru BRZ is set to make its U.S. debut at the North American International Auto Show (Detroit Auto Show) in just a few days on January 9th. Not to be outdone, the Scion FR-S will also be attending the event, with Scion's dubbed "Thunderdome" experience.

    SUBARU BR-Z
CHERRY HILL, N.J., Jan. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America Inc. announced that the production version of its all-new, rear-wheel drive 2013 Subaru BRZ sports car will make its United States debut at the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Hall in Detroit on January 9th. The BRZ will add a new product line to the hot Subaru brand, which announced its fourth consecutive year of sales growth and a new all-time vehicle sales record for 2011.
    ____

The 2013 BRZ, which arrives in Subaru dealerships in late spring, was designed with one goal in mind---exceptional handling. To reach that goal, Subaru engineers developed a chassis that would deliver the lowest center of gravity (CoG) possible utilizing the excellent packaging of the brand's Boxer engine design.

An all-new naturally aspirated 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower horizontally opposed (Boxer) engine was created. The new FA engine was developed to be more compact so that it could be placed lower and farther back in the chassis. To achieve the low CoG, a rear-drive layout was deemed necessary so the engine could be mounted as low as possible in the chassis. The engine placement allows for low polar moment and near-perfect balance for pure sports car handling.

With a low vehicle weight of just over 2,700 lbs., the direct injected 2.0-liter provides quick acceleration as it revs to its 7,400 RPM redline. The Subaru BRZ is available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

With a height of just 50.6 inches, swept-back roofline, bulging front fenders, short overhangs and pronounced rear haunches give the sleekly styled BRZ a lean, athletic stance. The Subaru BRZ will offer everyday comfort and practicality with 2+2 seating and expandable trunk space, along with the brand's renowned safety and quality.

The 2013 Subaru BRZ reflects the brand's core powertrain and chassis engineering throughout.

Subaru produces a full line of all-wheel drive sedans, crossovers and SUV's, and adding the BRZ sports car to its portfolio showcases the brand's penchant for engineering vehicles that offer excellent road manners.

2013 Subaru BRZ Sports Car to Make U.S. Debut at North American... -- CHERRY HILL, N.J., Jan. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

    SCION FR-S
DETROIT, Mich., January 5, 2012 – Scion, the youth brand of Toyota, will be bringing the “thunder” to the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

Utilizing nearly 30 percent more space than last year’s show, Scion is using its additional real estate to erect an expansive product and media theater, dubbed “Thunderdome.” Gone is the Matchbox-style vehicle showcase, which was a mainstay on the major auto show circuit for nearly five years.

Featuring a 15-foot-tall, overhead LED surround structure, the new exhibit encloses its vehicles and guests in a brand-dominated environment. At the center of the exhibit will be the 2013 Scion FR-S compact rear-wheel drive sports car, making its North American auto show debut in Detroit. The FR-S goes on sale this spring and will be the focus of a press conference at NAIAS on Jan. 9.

In all, there will be nine Scion products on display, among them the Scion iQ micro sub-compact, which went on sale in the fourth quarter of 2011. Each product has a zone and a video wall. Every zone is equipped with a digital product information and comparison tool, plus the Scion sX – an award-winning, immersive guest experience that features branded content, user participation, and information sharing.

“Philosophically, we needed a modular canvass to showcase the breadth of our growing product line,” said Steve Hatanaka, Auto Shows and Special Events Manager at Scion. “Scion is true to its roots of authenticity, personalization and youth. We believe this new exhibit is a reflection of those principles and we’re confident that the media and show goers in Detroit will enjoy visiting our display and seeing our cars.”

The exhibit was designed and constructed by Michigan-based George P. Johnson.

Well, upon news that this most exciting of cars really is coming stateside, I will celebrate with my first post

Lightweight fanatic and lover of turbos, I have been in love with this project since I got wind of it nearly 4 years ago. And not just the drivetrain layout, but the collaboration between the mighty Toyota and the impressive Subaru.

Im going to go pop a bottle of bubbly.

This is one thing I am pissed off with the stupid autoshow in US. For FRS or BRZ initial intro this year in Delta City or Chicago, it is look but don't touch.
WTF, I know I will be getting one already. So you won't let me touch one before I buy? This is almost as bad as going to strip bar and only look at pole dance. I am not going to the any of the auto show this year because I am not going to give my money to the corrupt city and get a hard on and end up still need to pay the full price to get some skin contact.

Went to the show on Sun. BRZ in Rally Blue, FR-S in silver. Both were on pedestals, I'm afraid, so no touching. Only the Subaru had a description board to go along with the car, nothing in writing at Scion, no videos, nothing. Weird, it's like they don't wanna promote the car or anything. They had a "product specialist" on hand, but knew less about the car than what we already know. No pricing details yet, of course.

So unless things are different for Chicago, we have to wait to get to dealers before we can touch.

We got hosed at the Boston show! No FR-S, no BRZ I was hoping Audi would have their RS5 or S6/7/8 there at least, but alas they didn't.
