It weighs 2864 lbs, so it's not much heavier than the 2800 they are saying for the ft86 and has about the same power (with the older 2.0 L). Really all you are getting over the Si is rwd and better weight distribution, which is the case typically for any car that is rwd vs fwd (engine is further back along with the transmission and the transfer case at the rear helps with the weight distribution). Lower COG? Maybe slight, but you won't notice it.

The speed3 and wrx just offer much more as far as performance and overall value, but I don't want fwd or awd. I would love a rwd, 2-door, wrx with a sleeker look, even if they charged a few grand more (for less of a car)!
i really really dont want FWD lol

Me either, but I wouldn't buy a rwd civic either. There are just too many good cars out there and this isn't shaping up to be a much better option. You can get a used 350/370 with low mileage and have much, much more performance. I just want something more nimble, be with descent power and mod-ability. You know what I mean (having an STi), that subies have HUGE support for them, especially compared to the sw20 I got. The new engines will be very similar in bolt patterns, so aftermarket companies won't have to do too much to make new parts. There will be a slew of parts due to that and that it's rwd with good looks, but will they actually be able to make power because of the engine/tranny combo (this is where compression ratio and transmission strength come into play)? That is what I'm waiting for, the specs. If it's a trickle down Sti tranny with low enough compression (>10.5:1), then I'm in, but if it's like the 2zz with a focus on lightweight and efficiency, then I'm out. There were people on newcelica.org that put $$$$$ into those 1zz, 2zz and 3zz (Frankenstein setup) and still were lucky to run 12's. The best thing for them cars was to drop in a 3sgte. Fensport had a nasty awd car, but that would cost loads $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and never be road legal (neither would any 3s powered 7th gen).

Come on Toyota/Subaru, I want some specs, part usage, etc.....I'm babbling in here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That isn't all we're getting, but even if it was, I'm dumbfounded that any car enthusiast would dismiss RWD vs FWD as "all you are getting".

I respectfully disagree. A shorter wheelbase and lower COG will mean noticeably different driving dynamics in a car like this.

But even if we dismiss that, a 2800 pounds FT86 would have ~290-340 fewer pounds over its front wheels than the Si. And I'm hoping the FT isn't that heavy.

Co-sign, I promised myself I'd never go back to FWD again.

Agreed, "all you are getting" makes it seem like there isn't that much of a difference. Which we all know to be untrue as RWD has so many advantages over FWD.

If we are talking stock vs stock, or apples to apples, then going fwd to rwd in a lower torque powered car won't be that different. Ever try to toss a miata? They are very nuetral. Try the same in a DC2 integra and you'll think, wow, they aren't as different as you'd think. Now take a v6 accord out and a v6 mustang and you'll think differently. It's when there is torque to really haul arse that the car will show what's pushing. With 160 tq (130 wtq), you really aren't getting a major difference between fwd and rwd, unless you are on a slippery surface.

Even at higher power etc, newer fwd's are more nuetral than before because of suspension etc. That said, I still like my rwd for real sports and would love to have awd for winter as I live on a hill. Nothing is like having the rear of the car kicking out and managing throttle with a steering angle. aka drifting

I owned a '95 GSR. It was quite fun, but was a far cry from the MX5. A friend of mine had an ITR. It was one of the most (if not the most) neutral stock FWD cars ever built, but it was still different than RWD.

Also, though Honda deserves a lot of credit for creating an almost sufferable FWD car, they had to make the ITR extremely stiff and uncomfortable in the process. Compare that to the MX5 and RX8... they provide the fun-factor while also being livable. I'm guessing the Toyobaru won't be as soft as a MX5 or RX8 (hopefully, since they have too much roll), but won't be as jarring as the ITR.

    All IMO of course.
