First Live Pics of Subaru Boxer Sports Car Architecture from Geneva!

Here it is, the first real life pics [full gallery] of the Subaru Boxer Sports Car Architecture from the Geneva Motor Show! True to rumors, what is being shown is merely a skeletal frame with the boxer motor, suspension, and chassis mounted.

No confirmation yet whether this skeletal frame represents the actual design of Subaru’s version of the FT-86.
More info and pics of the Subaru Boxer Sports Car and the Toyota FT-86 from tomorrow’s official conferences, so stay tuned!

Im confused. The plaque says its, RWD based off the AWD system. I guess it will indeed be RWD. Sorry AWD fans!

BOXER SPORTS CAR ARCHITECTURE is the concept model of Subaru's rear-wheel-drive sports car now under development - the first of its kind from Subaru for the masses. Its new platform incorporates Subaru's signature Symmetrical AWD system, and showcases the latest SUBARU BOXER engine that delivers outstanding driving and environmental performance. The SUBARU BOXER engine comes with attributes suitable for sports car performance - it's lightweight, compact and has a low center of gravity - to enhance the driving pleasure that Subaru strives to offer.

No it doesn't. It says: "It's new platform incorporates Subaru's signature Symmetrical AWD system."

SOA Blog over at NASIOC is also dismissing this plaque, as being "poorly worded," and that what's on display is a RWD car. Yet if you look closely at this small scale model, the image clearly "suggests" front half shafts coming off the engine. Yeah, it's not 100% clear, but there's enough doubt raised here to keep AWD hopes alive.

Keep in mind that this small display with this (poorly worded) plaque went through a number of approval sessions, before reaching this stage of development. Some key decision-makers somewhere signed off on this.

My take is that this somehow slipped through, and that it likely will be removed before the press announcement occurs. Even SOA Blog stated that. I'm sure Subaru wants to focus their message entirely on the RWD engineering at this show. Having even a small AWD model will dilute and divert that message.

I bet that was done on purpose. Makes me wonder if they haven't decided what the car will be and are being vague until they do.

Here is how I see it, along with the Press Release above link, the statement below puts emphasis on the *new*, rather than platform.

Meaning the architecture was developed by Subaru for a RWD system and Subaru's model will incorporate symmetrical AWD. This will likely be done by rising the motor and pushing it further from the firewall.

Its why we have seen the Mule in Michigan with the newly added hood scoop. Since its a *new* system, the AWD system needs to be road tested more than the existing RWD already developed by Subaru.

Its clear from the Press Release of both the Toyota and Subaru that they are emphasizing the same thing. Subaru on the other hand is simply focused on the Chassis in which it created jointly with Toyota.

    Thats my 2c.
