Unlucky for us fans Toyota Motor Co. has keeping the lid tight on the FT-86, and so very few have actually driven the future concept car. The car has now rocked the automotive world and driven the most hype in recent memory. Sadly we are left to best guess as to what the actual performance data is. That is where Polyphony Digital steps in, the makers of the delayed Gran Tourism 5 driving simulator. Polyphony Digital knows people, they have access to executives and engineers from all manufacturers. Toyota and Subaru included. Hince the virtual release of the Toyota FT-86 and G's FT-86 within Gran Tourism.
Lucky for us Polyphony is serious about real life racing sims, and so the FT-86 they reproduced in no exception. What we have learned form Gran Tourism is that the virtual FT-86 reaches 61 MPH (100 km./h) in 6.1 seconds and redlines at 8500 RPM. Suspecting the engine is an naturally aspirated inline 4 with VVT-i, it should be producing about 250 BHP. Handling is hard to gauge inside a game, but its clear this beauty can drift. Handling should be everything we hope for in a lightweight compact rear wheel drive sports car. We can expect the car to debut soon with its price tag around $20,000 - $25,000. Additionally Subaru fans will soon have something to cheer about as the Subaru variant FT-86 (086a\216a) teaser is immanent.
Summary:
0-60 MPH Approximately 6.1 seconds.
Redline = 8500 RPM
