Media Latest Magazine Rendering of Toyota FT-86 is No Good

Although the engine information is mildly on par with the latest news from the NYIAS Press Conference and Toyota EU's publication on engine and transmission specs. The renderings are, to say the least, in need of major improvement.

A few days ago I posted a photo from the latest Mag-X issue, which arrived today. As usual, I always try to provide you with the latest renderings coming straight from Japan. Anyway, as the time passes by and we are getting closer to December, I expect more accurate renderings of the production version to be published.

According to the article, the FB20 will deliver 200 ps and 205 Nm of torque, while it will come with the D-4S injection system. The bore and stroke will be 86 x 86 mm! In terms of transmissions, a 6AT will be also available with paddle shifts on the steering wheel. As already known, power will go to the rear wheels and an LSD will ensure the best power distribution.

The FT-86 will be on sale in April 2012.

200HP is a good starting point if the car is less than 3000 pounds IMHO.

Balanced bore and stroke seems to enable all kinds of build options for prefered performance styles.

OMG! WTF is that damn front end all about! At least it's not smiling like a Mazda.

I like how the tail lights don't protrude the trunk line and the exhaust detailing in the bumper looks sturdier.

=) I agree, I like the look and outline shape of the prototypes, but I still don't like how they stick out (another reason why I don't like the RX8). I think tail lights should be flush, but that's just my opinion. I'd drive with whatever came with the car.

It's the damn front that get's me. I'd need an aftermarket bumper immediately (or a surf kit to fiberglass my own).

This would be Mag-X's (latest!) guess at what the 'production-ised' version of the FT-86II / FR-S will look like. They have had a go at what it could be like with production do-able items such at headlights, tail-lights, the air-inlet shape at the front and the rear splitter. I also hope the final version does not look like this.
