Nah, I'm still excited. I have to give them credit for the video though - that hypes it up a bit for me. Brand New Toyota FT-86 Teaser! - YouTube

That's sadly ironic. The AE86 was supposed to be affordable. I'd love to see a crazy bare bones model with all performance they can muster. I mean 280 hp/ 250 tq (2.0 or 2.5) and no power anything at 2600 lbs for less than 28k. I'd sell a testy if I had to.

Make the "muscle" heads roll! I mean serious performance, lsd, etc.

If Honda can come up with the 2012 Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 pushing out 256hp whats so hard to make this baby with at least 240 thats a sound number right there. not too much to push the price up and not too low not to stay competitive. the cars that most will compare the 86 to wheather FF,FR or AWD in a simular or close price/weight/power range will have at least that much or close to.
Examples-Next gen golf...i can see vw bumping that to 220hp soon, Mitsu lancer ralliart...pretty sure its around 240, genisis coupe its getting an upgrade next year...prolly around 240. next miata 220 ish, Si 220. i mean really all this makes sense does it not? just my humble thoughts though.

True, but the ft86 is subie derived. Where the HELL is the turbo? With the dual injection, they can still run 9.5:1 compression and 10 psi. Would be great off boost and better on. 250 hp easy. It's a no brainer for me. Make a performance model for subaru with that power and no options. It will sell. Would it take sales from the STi? Maybe some, but you'd have 2 reasons for enthusiasts to come to your showroom and either way, you'd be better off with having 2 options, especially since one is rwd and smaller while the other is AWD and a 4 door. Prices would be cheaper for the ft86 as it's more raw and smaller.

    Just priced a Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-spec. $25,385 delivered.
210 hp, 223 tq,6 speed manual with lsd, brembo brakes and an ipod connection.

I am not a fan of the car, but the specs are good and the reliability should be descent if not good (the 4b11 is the "world engine" and in the evo and srt4). I would buy a ft86 with 240 hp and 210 tq with lsd, wrx brakes and base wrx features for 28k out the door, no question. I will not buy a 200 hp, 160 tq(or worse 150 tq) with lsd and brembo's for 25k. Why? I want some go! Needs more than 210 hp and 180 tq period. Keep it under $28,000, allow us to choose options or none and keep the price down!

It's going to be hard to sell a sports car right now with 200 hp and 150 tq for 25,000. I don't care what else is in it or if it makes 28 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. It's a sports car. If I wanted mpg, I'd buy a prius. Hell, the Genesis coupe makes something like 26 mpg average and that's fine with me.

at 50 seconds into the video you can see that they were running wheel spacers, and the tires up front didn't seem very wide. On the plus side, if those wheels are the same width and offset, we should be able to run a spacer to flush it out a bit, or, with the right offset and width, squeeze an extra inch or two of wheel width into the stock wells. Though I'd expect to have to roll the fenders a bit.
