Talking Scion Reinvented, Turbo FT-86 Options Planned

According to our sources, Toyota - Scion will offer Turbocharged or Turbo options for the Scion FT-86 / FR-S. The news is bittersweet, there will likely be no stock offering yet the add-on's will be covered by warranty. This move requires the base price to remain low, or Scion will face serious backlash if it unveils a loaded Turbo FT-86 at $30,000. If you recall the Subaru FT-86 variant was recently spied with a modified hood including a TMIC (Top Mount Intercooler), but recall the Gazoo G Sport coupe has a FMIC (Front-Mount Intercooler). We might ultimately get unique Turbo systems with each offering. No doubt it will inspire a serious aftermarket exchange.

Customization has long since been the Scion model, and Scion will get aggressive with the FT-86 release. Yesterdays shameful Scion brand will soon be smashed in the grill with an mastery rivaling a near half century old dominance that was once Toyota. Eco-boxes will exists, but like Z/GT-R owners you wont think twice about the Eco offerings. One car does not define a brand, yet the FT-86 will reinvent Scion.

Thank you for the news West. I really enjoyed looking at the engines of Supra turbos, Mr2 turbos, Celica turbos and other Toyota standard turbos. Thank goodness this is standard or at least an option. You just made my Thanksgiving.

Info relayed to me from my inside Scion/Toyota person. Scion has some big plans coming.

There is this article as well, which refers to Turbos and Direct Injection. We have known about the direct injection forever now.

Also note, that article is not what inspired my post, my info is from my source from yesterday. Finding that article just solidified the fact that I should post what I was told.

Inside source FTW. I personally find this to be very believable. When Scion re-did the tC, they did an astounding job, moving it a bit upmarket and making it considerably more sporty. If that's the direction Scion is heading with everything, the FT-86 is a clear shoe-in for their RWD, sporty coupe. I just hope they manage to keep it trim, nimble and well powered. And under 22 starting.

Not sure that Toyota (scion) would price it around the WRX range, that would be a and a serious fail.

Scions marketing scheme is a ripoff. You buy the car, then buy the good parts at retail from Scion, then have to pay them to install them on or do it yourself (probably voiding the warranty if you do it yourself). They could install all the parts at the factory at low to no additional cost to Scion other than component price, but the greedy BASTARDS want to make us pay through the nose. What the hell will we do with a bunch of brand new Scion sissy parts?

I say boycott Scion and buy Subaru. Did I mention, in my opinion, Scion is a bunch of greedy BASTARDS!!!! I hate BASTARDS!

NA is fine with me. I'm more concerned with weight and price then power.

I think It'd be pretty cool if more E85 stations around cali cause if that were the case id like to try a conversion in the future
guy i know runs E85 in his evo and he said it feels better than running 93 octane for the price of 87, down side is he has to drive pretty far before he finds a station with it anyone got opinions on E85?

E85 increases whp/wtq without modifications to existing tunes. However, you still require a professional tune to ensure engine safety (but that really depends on the tuner and driver requirements). LOL.

edit: Yeah, wish we had it here in CT but NOoooo...not yet that is. However, I can drive 45mins to NY to get it but that's...no for now. Waiting to it to become common place before getting at tune for it. I also may be required to get bigger injectors, so it all adds up.

So what I'm gathering out of all of the posts is that scion will basically offer the turbo setup like they do with their TRD SC setup where it's a whole seperate package? This is opposed to just offering a higher model FR-S turbo car, instead of NA?

Sounds like it. Hopefully they will offer it at a much lower cost.

e85 is sweet. 105 octane and is an oxygenating fuel. meaning, when it burns, it actually releases oxygen. that oxygen is partially left in the chamber for the next revolution, which means more power. for a turbo car, that is even better.

i hope to get my mr2 tuned for it eventually. we have it here, but i'm somewhat out in the country right now and it would be a 40 min drive one way to the nearest station. downside of e85, it takes about 20-25% more fuel. so, you need to have a better fuel system to support it. my mr2 is ready and i have a pfc. just need fuel to be closer.....you can buy it in 55 gal drums if need be, but if going that route, go E100 and up fuel by ~30%.

i wish the frs had a flex fuel setup like gm uses. you'll net an easy 20-30 whp on e85 above stock. you can gain about 4-6 whp for every octane point you can tune for. trick is, you need the tune and a good one for safety. an e85 flex fuel setup for a turbo'd frs and you could see alot more reliable power.

I'm not sure why so many people are upset that it'll be a scion... I wouldn't have it any other way for several reasons. first of all the release will coincide with me graduating college(after 8 long years) which means I get $1000 off any new scion. Second, It'll have every option I want at the base price(though i might opt for the better stereo). Third, apparently a lot of people won't buy a scion which is great cause I don't like other people owning the same kind of car as me.

I think it's because most people associates Scion drivers with high school kids who think they have cool cars.
For some reason most scion owners put "show before go" and stick to exterior mods before engine... which is usually not even more than an intake and exhaust at most.

And why do we get $1000 off any new scion??

At least right now when you buy a new scion within six months before or after graduating college you get a $1000 rebate.. hopefully that doesn't change before this car comes out.

I kinda see your point with scion's image, but.. as long as the car still looks good when they release the production version I don't care what badge they put on it, I'd still buy one if had a kia emblem on the front(then promptly remove it or cover it up when i got it home)

Ive pretty grown on to the idea of it being a Scion, however now that Subaru has officially pressed about the Subaru "FT86" variant I cant imagine the Scion being of on par with the Subaru. We shall find out soon

and now that the subie is RWD and the toyota might be a scion it'd be interesting to see how the results from the (ft86 vs. 216a) poll would change... :P

Maybe an overall yet slight increase in disapproval for both models, but people shifting more attention to Subaru? (A lot of "Toyota loyalists/anti-Scion-ists" and many in the "Subaru AWD or NO-WD" camp.)
