Spy shots of possible STI version of the Suby variant

Spy Shots: Subaru FT-86 spotted again... is it the STI? — Autoblog

Enjoy. Anyone else find it kind of odd that the Suby version is still being tested in this body? I mean, at first I can understand but how long ago now was the Suby version caught testing in this mule form and it hasn't evolved from that shape at all. This is an exceptionally long time IMO. I'm wondering if the Suby version isn't going to look anything like the FT86 and look more like that mule, ie a 2 door WRX with maybe a lower roof line.

Just a Monday morning thought to get the juices flowing.

They're still driving that classic test mule around? shouldn't it be on display at a museum? Lol . Good for Subaru, at least we can have our hopes up.

I realize this is the old car. These pics are brand new though. That was kind of the point of my post. I find it odd they are still testing in this same mule.

I have a question. So when they make a mule of a concept car. since its only chassis testing, that also means that the body panels on the mule are just parts to cover (for example, the impreza tail lights on the mule are just cover ups right) nothing really permanent?

Yeah that's usually the case. But they've been testing this mule WAAYYY longer then normal. I remember spy shot of a hacked up 350z that was obviously shortened and looked all hacked up. Everyone though it was a 240 successor. Just a few months later the 370z debuted and that was the car the mule was for.

It's also kind of off to me they'd continue to test a mule that is such a different shape from what the car should look like considering things like the center of gravity, aero dynamics, etc would be completely different from that mule compared to the shape of the FT86.

This is what confues me. Other than a form of guierlla marketing I can't think if why either company would be doing the above mentioned.

There's an air intake on the hood that were NOT on the lasts spy shots. That make me think that they were testing the classic version last time and the STI version this time.

And that would mean that the classic version is now almost READY !!!
It's pure speculation but that's really good news and it makes me happy

Does anyone agree with me? ^^

I believe they had an air intake on the hood on the last one too, but both are closed, so there is no air actually passing through them. In the article it mentions a front mount... but IMO it looks more like the radiator... lol
