Media Subaru's 216a STi FT-86 Variant Spied Testing in US Southwest

The Subaru FT-86 commonly known as the 216a STi has been spotted in the US Southwest, the last spotting was in Orange County California many months ago. Although this time it has the added hood scoop for Subaru's signature STi top mount intercooler. Could we be seeing a STi form of the 216a / Subaru 216a?

So is the Subaru getting all the testing and the FT-86 stealing the show? How do we know that's not the FT-86 and nit the Subaru

Either way It's good to see it's progressing!

this was testing the STi Sedan, and they extended the front door slightly to make it look like a coupe to throw everyone off lolol

Nice pics! That looks identical to a 2dr STi if they ever had one. Even the tail lights under the tape are the same. I have a feeling theyre going to keep that 08+ impreza bodystyle for a while.

Oh ye of little faith. It actually can't be any other Subaru road car, because all Subaru road cars currently manufactured have the brake calipers mounted aft of the front hub. That goes for all models of Impreza and Legacy. This car has the brake calipers mounted in front of the hub and so does the Toyota FT-86 concept. In fact, they're mounted in exactly the same position. Just sayin.

Plus that car has heavy fake body mods and all of the current models have all ready been revealed have they not?

STi Sedan or not, what platform did you think it was going to be based off? I think FT-86, at least whatever it is we are looking at here.

I wouldt mind driving that thing to work. I would add myself a good pair of lambo doors and then another wing stacked on the original wing. Dont forget the neons on the ceiling and a disco ball on the rear view. Chopshop ghetto power!

So what is everyone thought if this ends up as a Subaru STi (Impreza) coupe, based off the FT-86? Regardless of RWD or AWD. How would you take such news? I dont know what I'd think...

    Why would you be disappointed?

Ill admit, if it comes out under the Impreza line id be very perplexed. Good think is STi isnt tied to any model, so it can be a Toyobaru STi. Seriously, they should name it that I'm not bias.

The vehicle in that picture is an obvious test mule with body parts added and others covered up. The production car will not look like that.

so I'm guessing no one noticed that that hood scoop on that car is actually blocked off?....

Subaru won't let this car out perform the head of it's fleet, the STi. It's much like how Porsche detuned the Cayman S as it was faster around the track than the 911 Carrera in testing. Also part of why the E92 M3 adapted a V8 when the 335i was out-powering the outgoing E46 M3.

yeah, I was looking for a fmic and couldn't see one.

The E46 motor was good so long as you didn't have one of the early year engines that popped frequently.
