Exclamation Supercharged GT 86 vs Subaru BRZ STI

Saw this on Topspeed.com interesting thought to share it.

Toyota planning supercharged GT 86 to battle it out with Subaru’s BRZ STI

We knew it was only a matter of time. Toyota has just released their GT 86 and Subaru their BRZ, and whispers in the industry are already buzzing about a supercharged version of the GT 86. In fact, Chief Engineer Tetsuo Tada has already confirmed the future model to British magazine, AutoCar, which cements the fact that Toyota is working on a car to match wits with b>Subaru’s planned STI model.

The new supercharged GT 86 will be developed by Toyota Racing Developments and will add a supercharger kit to the current Subaru 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. This new system will add a minimum of 50 HP to the current 200 HP, which will still make it 50 HP shy of Subaru’s promised 300 HP. Nonetheless, expect to see improved performance times from the GT 86’s 0-60 mph sprint time of 6.8 seconds and top speed of 143 mph.

The supercharged GT 86 will also be equipped with an improved suspension system and better brakes to handle the added power, but expect to also see a few exterior mods to differentiate it from a standard model.

I see a problem with that article. First off Subaru has never said the BRZ Sti version would get 300HP or be turbo. Two I don't believe they even officially confirmed an Sti version. I call BS.

What planet are you from? TRD offers superchargers for the Tundra, Sequioa, Tacoma, Camry, tC, and have offered them for the xB and Celica in the past. Toyota offered a factory supercharged MK1 MR2, Previa van, and Soarer coupe.

I still call B.S. I don't know where you would fit a supercharger in that engine bay, honestly. They'd have to get awfully creative with the intake manifold...

You are partially right. Yes, TRD do have factory installed super charger on the truck body.
And yes, TRD SC kit is available for tC, but they are not factory installed
MR2 has factory turbo, not super charger.
    Thank you for your correction.

The GS130 Crown has the a supercharged 2 litre 6 cylinder engine, known as the 1G-GZE. I should know, I have fitted this to my RA23 Celica.

I have read that the BRZ will have "under 300 hp," which means that they might be hinting to a 260-290 hp BRZ version sometime. TRD could do this. Remember they have those small centrifugal superchargers that don't take up much space. The engine bay in the car "looks" small, but if you look at it, everything is on top. Who says there isn't room in other areas to shift piping, wiring, etc? Gotta see it from the bottom and see the top from a better angle. From the forward angle, you can't see gaps if there were any. Need one from over the engine and under the engine. IMO, a turbo seems like it might be easier though, as there should be room under the batter area and then spacing to fit a top mount and reroute the intake. It's really hard to tell, and the piping won't be a straight as in some applications.

Unconfirmed source from Subaru say Toyota had plan to super charge the FA20 all alone. There is an easy bolt on compact centrifuge blower waiting. Idea is easy to add on and light. Cheaper to make and higher profit margin. Subaru engineers was not too happy about it because Subaru has always use turbo.

I would be thrilled to see a supercharged version available. My Audi S4 is powered by a 3.0L supercharged V6 and it has a torque curve so flat, you could put a ruler on it! It's 10x more responsive than the previous V8 S4 and RS4. I also loved the linear power delivery in my '89 MR2 Supercharged. That thing was a blast! You can have the turbo; I don't have power goals over 300hp so this should be just fine

WRONG. The mr2 had a NA version for every year, a supercharged aw11 and a turbo sw20.

sure that article might be 'bs' but the fact still remains that the odds of a supercharged or turbocharged 86 brz frs whatever is insanely high and easily sooner than 2014

If they have the dual injection, I'd like to see 9:1. DI allows more precise injection, so higher CR is easier to make stable.

I'm assuming the FR-S gets the shaft here, and only the BRZ and GT 86 get the higher-performance options. Since Scion has the whole mono-spec garbage where every car on the lot is exactly the same and there's only one trim.

    bleh.

I think the Scion will have more premium options that are standard compared to the GT86/BRZ.
