Toyota FT-86 Boxer Engine Logo Uncovered

Toyota’s upcoming rear-drive FT-86 sports car was developed in collaboration with Subaru, and it’s been said all along that the car would feature a 2.0-liter flat-four engine. If you had any doubt about the engine configuration, this logo for the Toyota version that we uncovered should put those questions to rest.

The emblem is clearly a cross section of a boxer engine, featuring one horizontally opposed piston on each side and a highly stylized number 86 inserted in the center where the crankshaft would live. It also gives an indication that Toyota is planning to use “86″ in the production car’s name in some capacity; the number is an homage to the much-loved rear-wheel-drive Toyota AE86 Corolla of the 1980s. Whether all-wheel drive will be available and when exactly the cars will go on sale—expect one or both to debut late next year at the Tokyo auto show—are still open questions. Both the Subie and Toyota will feature aluminum body panels hung on a steel structure, and should wear base prices somewhere in the low-$20K range.

From a graphic artists standpoint that design is outstanding. I'm glad they are going to use 86 in some way too.

Someone help me understand this statement:

Earlier this year, it was rumoured that the new entry-level sports car would be named 'FR-S', after Toyota submitted a trademark application for the name in July. Interestingly, the logo image above could also be interpreted as a stylised take on the letters F, R and S.
Toyota Confirms FT-86 / FR-S Name With Leaked Logo: Report | Reviews | Prices | Australian specifications

Toyota submitted 86 and FR-S as trademarks some time ago, if you recall.

^Its saying the FR-S name was only rumored and this could be a design using those letters therefore adding validity to said rumor.

That design is a joke doesn't contend to look serious, IMO, it looks like a key chain or a superhero belt.

Cmon now, it looks good. Most the cars will be de-badged anyways if its a Scion. It's be a mid $20k car, not a Porsche. Although I bet it will be ALMOST as good

But I agree, we should be hardasses keeping to the roots, but imagine that logo as a decal and its not that bad.

    Better than this, no?

Sorry West, can't see it yet. We shall see.

Sure, if it wasn't for Volvo, Scion wouldn't have a tC but originally intended xC.
