That wing needs to come down a few feet. When they say race prep I really wonder what is done to it.

Looks aside, in the PDF that's linked in the file there are a couple cars I'm not familiar with:

    Opel Astra OPC and

    Peugeot 206 RC

But the Opel is 237hp/236tq stock supposedly, and the Peugeot, while weaker, is ~2300-2500 lbs according to Wiki. Between those two, the S2000 (!), and the Civic Type R, maybe it gives us some indication as to where it falls in a power/weight ratio.

The wing is right. Gotta be up high enough to catch air and see UNDER it. I had an '90 accord with a spoiler that pissed me off. It blocked view because you couldn't see under it well and it was up 3-4 inches off the trunk.

    Like:
rear bumper, wing, front lip, big brakes, small mirrors (not stock i bet), rims and overall shape from these angles.

    Dislike:
    Tails

I hope it's a lot faster than the golf and merc van! ROFL

In seriousness, I do like the car. A turbo version would be sweet and I will own one eventually, but I'm gonna rock the mr2 for now.

Besides from the big brakes, side mirrors and bucket seats it pretty much looks like a production ready FR-S with optional body kit and rims. here is another site to check out for info Carscoop

Guys, honestly, I don't think our rear tail lights are going to look like that. For us in America, we usually never get the reverse lights on the bottom bumper, usually European cars do that, or track cars.

When the Evo X came out, I thought the rear lights were disgusting and killed the car IMO. But then, it sorta grew on me, and now I like them. Back to this, I like the shape of the lights, just not the fact it sticks out on the side angles, and when the trunk will opened too.

You are very right. However, minor change to the tail light can change that. I hope and wish Subaru make it so
    1) direction blinker replace with reverse light.
    2) the current stop light, make the center as the regular stop light. the circle LED light around the stop light as direction blinker.

Look at the roof height. It is lower than the van's window and looks like the guard rail is over 2/3 up the height of the car. It's gonna be a sleek car. Imagine it dropped an inch or two!

For anyone not following the ft86club threads, FYI:

    1) Race prepped it weighs 2425 pounds and produces 200 ps

    2) The tach redlines at 7400 RPM

    3) It placed 3rd (out of 5) in its class

Mitsu's EVO 10 and my '08 Lancer GTS' have great taillights, I think Mitsubishi hit it spot on with these. Really, my '08 Lancer GTS is the car I would buy again if I had all of Warren Buffett's cash laying around.

As for the above FR-S pics, I think this Scion FR-S is gonna rock the house. Can't wait ta see it in person. Are we talkin' April '12 for it's release?

This Hyundai Genesis rocks as well.

    1. With creature comforts back in I am going to guess 2900-3100lbs. 200ps (197.6hp) is that wheel or crank?
    2. I can see this being a popular drift car one day
    3. The "race prep" is third out of its class, which sounds like the stock one will be slow as balls.

In first place we have the Civic type r drived by Fugel (265hp for 1000kg apparently)
    In second place a S2000. I don't know the performances but stock it's 240hp for 1280kg.
So it's normal that the FT-86 (200hp for 1100kg) takes the 3rd place but she's close to the S2000.

Ps: the Civic and the S2000 are driven by locals drivers and it's not the first race for the cars

2900-3100 pounds? No way will it be that portly... that the stripped version with roll-cage weighed 2425 pounds has me optimistic the production model won't be more than 2700 pounds. Not only that, but the 2555 pounds rumor that I initially dismissed now seems possible.

    200ps is at the crank.

They reportedly didn't push it for most of the race. I'm not at all concerned about it being slow in stock form, as long as it's lightweight.

There are a couple interesting threads about all this at ft86club.

A mr2 turbo weighs 2850 lbs. A race prep'd mr2 turbo weights about 2500 lbs. I would guess that this car might be as low as 2750 as long as it doesn't have leather. That said, I have a mr2 that weighs about 2650 lbs.

See this is something toyots needs to look at the Civic and the s2000 are just killing it and have been for years, if they dont make the FR86 something special then all this media attention is for not.

There are different degrees of race prepped.

r1vale at ft86club posted about the SP3 class Civic-R, "the Civic is a real full on Racecar and not anywhere near stock" and "If you want to compare the FT to other equally stock cars, you should take a look at the V3 class as those cars will have roughly the same mods as the FT and also have 2l engines". The SP3 Civic makes over 265 HP and is 1000 kg (2205 pounds) while a V3 Civic that raced last year made 201 HP and was 1261 kg (2780 pounds).

As far as why the FT was SP3 instead of V3, r1vale wrote "it's still a prototype, which means you've got no existing stock configuration as reference points".

Of course, we have no way of knowing how much weight reduction they got from doing minor modifications, stripping the interior, and adding a roll cage. I won't be surprised if the production version weighs 2750 pounds, but as I wrote I'm now optimistic it'll weigh 2700 or less.

there are more mandatory safety features that have been added to all cars since mr2's, just a thought

Yeah, but the mr2 is so overbuilt, they've got extra weight everywhere. You have to swap parts or remove them to drop it. Case and point, my exhaust manifold is ~30 lbs, while my tubular is about 15. The stock engine hook is about 4 lbs and you don't need that to race. LOL. Cars now have much more aluminum and less steel. The mr2 has a lot of steel and is heavy for it's size because of how it was built. That's why I figure the FRS will be about the same weight as the mr2, even though it's powertrain and parts should be much lighter.

Word. I want to hear this thing. I love the unequal length sound of an STi with a free flowing exhaust. It's like a mix of muscle car burble and high-revving madness. I know that Toyota probably put equal length on it though, so it'll be more bland, but still probably good.

I prefer equal lenght personally though u know what coming when u hear that barble. 7400 rpm is respectable what u guys think. would it be feasable to make it 8 though raising the compresion ratio would be a must for that or are they planning for later...TURBO BABY by keeping it 7500ish

I don't think the newer boxers use UEL headers anymore. I know my '10 LGT doesn't, which is a real shame. I miss it.
