Thumbs up Toyota FT-86 wont be a Scion tC, thankfully

Autoblog reported this morning that the 2011 Scion tC will be officially released with a brand redesign at the NY Auto Show tomorrow, thankfully putting the idea of the Toyota FT-86 being badged as a Scion to rest.

Scion itself has released a video (after the jump) which shows a slightly larger engine at 2.5 liters compared to the past 2.4 liters. Six speed transmission, and improved fuel economy have also been confirmed. Scion fans will find out all the details tomorrow at the NY Auto Show. For us Toyota FT-86 fans, we can all have a collective sigh of relief.

Wow that looks very similar to the current gen, no matter! Just keep Scion out the FT-86 light.

I wonder if Scion will take the inspiration from Toyota and build a real sports car.

More tC stuff, looks like Axis (wheel company) made their own edition of the tC.

Scion Vehicles : All-New 2011 Scion tC Receives Five Axis Makeover for 2010 New York International Auto Show / Toyota

NEW YORK (March 31, 2010) – Scion today unveiled a Five Axis customized edition of the all-new 2011 Scion tC at the 2010 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). The special Five Axis Scion demonstrates one of the many ways in which the all-new tC can be customized with internal and aftermarket accessories.

The Five Axis tC carries a high–performance, racing theme with the installation of a four-inch wide-body conversion and a unique House of Color custom formulated exterior paint that is appropriately named, Bloodshot. Performance was enhanced with the installation of a Tein adjustable coil-over suspension, a TRD custom Big Brake kit, and 20-inch Yokahama Advan Sport tires mounted onto five AD R5:F wheels.

The interior complements the exterior performance and look with unique Five Axis trim and color appointments and material specifications by Zing Design. Comfort is provided with custom leather-trimmed seats with Ultrasuede® EcoDesign™ inserts. Additional interior enhancements include Chilewich floor mats, and upholstery by Little John’s Interior Concepts.

Founded in 1995 by Troy Sumitomo, Five Axis is most noted for their concept cars and high-end showcars often seen at major international auto shows and trade shows like SEMA. Their primary customers are auto manufacturers such as Toyota for whom Five Axis supports many of their internal R&D programs. Five Axis also has their own line of wheels and aftermarket products, which are designed and created using the same methods and technology to create their high-end concepts and show cars.

The Five Axis Scion tC show car will be on display throughout the 2010 NYIAS.

You stick a factory turbo on the scion and it would be a nice car. Yes even with it's fwd format.

The five axis Tc is alright. I think Scion was successful at making it look like the van/thing they make(sorry I can't remember the name), but the chunky style doesn't seem to work for the TC. I don't think it's ugly, but the front and profile views lost their charm. I really like the rear though. Here's to hoping the FT-86 is not "finalized" by the same guys....

I just came back from the 2010 New York auto show and as expected I asked both Toyota and Subaru representatives and both were clueless. Subaru denied all rumors. Toyota had no idea of launch date. I'm still a big fan of Scion because Toyota Motor Corp is very good to our car club. Anyway here is a picture I took.

Thanks West, for all of us here I try very hard. Lol. And yes I know the East Coast regional director and at the NY auto show he said the 5 axis tC is not just a show car. He owns a few Toyota dealerships and has the proprietorship to the 5 axis body kits. They are actually selling kitted cars as an option at his dealerships! I asked if he can collaberate with 5 axis for the FT86 and he said we shall see. I thanked him and walked away with an awsome feeling for what's in store for the FT86.

Wow dealer installed body kits. One step closer to the day where you can get stuff like FMICs or coilovers at the dealer.

I like dealer fitted stuff as it is covered by their warranty, but I just find it can be a bit too conservative, in both looks and performance. I like the competition that keen aftermarket suppliers provide, especially when they are chasing the unofficial title of "best for FT-86" (for example) be it in dampers, coil-overs, bushes, intercoolers, etc etc.

Hi there, I just saw this thread this morning and i was surprise with this one. To be honest i am using BMW but planning to buy a new car. As i read this thread, the thought of having this one pop up to my mind. and this might be a good option.
